선교관 소개

전시관 입구

전시관 입구에 위치한 이곳에는 황해도 소래교회와 맥켄지 선교사가 세운 최초의 십자가의 모습입니다. 소래교회는 조선인이 세운 최초의 교회로, 맥켄지는 이러한 최초의 한인들의 소래교회에 초청받아 부임한 초대 담임목사입니다. 이분은 1893년에 조선에 가셔서 2년이 채 안되어 열병으로 돌아가셨습니다. 하지만, 그분의 죽음은 마치 한알의 씨앗이 떨어져 열매를 맺는 하나님의 역사를 보여주셨습니다.

맥켄지, 그렇게 복음을 전하시고 순교하신 그 한국땅에서 그 복음 받은 한인 그들의 자손들이 이곳에 이민와서, 정확히 100년 뒤인 1993년에 이분이 졸업하신 Pine Hill이라는 다운타운에 위치한 신학교의 채플룸에서 우리 핼리팩스 한인교회가 창립 예배를 드렸습니다.

2023년, 창립 30주년이 되던 작년, 맥켄지선교관이 지금 여기 보시는 것처럼 노회 소속 교회들과 단체들이 함께 합심하여 헌금하고, 저희 교회 교인들이 합심하여 공사하고 설치하여, 저희 교회 건물을 리모델링하여 마련할 수 있게 되었습니다. 이는 저희 교회만으로는 결코 진행할 수 없는 일이었기에, 이는 주님의 은혜와 감사의 선교관으로 남을 것입니다.

Entrance of McKenzie Hall

Here, at the entrance of the McKenzie hall, Sorae Church is located. Here, you can see the first Korean church established by Korean people, Sorae Church in Hwanghae Province where is now a part of North Korea, along with the flag of Saint George symbolizing the cross of the church which was erected by McKenzie at the first time. Sorae Church is the first church established by Koreans in Korea, and McKenzie was invited to serve as the first pastor of this first Korean church. Rev. McKenzie arrived in Korea in 1893, and he served only less than two years and passed away on June 22, 1895. McKenzie’s sacrifice was a symbol of God’s work as a seed falling to the ground and bearing plentiful fruits. In 1993, exactly 100 years from his mission to Korea, descendants who came to Halifax established the Halifax Korean church and held its Founding Service in the chapel of the Halifax Pine Hill Theological College (also known as Presbyterian College, Halifax; currently Atlantic School of Theology) where McKenzie graduated. In 2023, at the 30th anniversary of the church, this memorial hall was built through collective giving and voluntary contribution by church members with the cooperation of many churches and organizations affiliated with the denomination. This was something our church alone could never have accomplished. Therefore, this exhibition place will stand forever as a missionary hall of God’s grace and thanksgiving.

전시관 비전

이곳은 분단 전 조선(남한과 북한이 하나였던 당시)에서 활동한 캐나다 선교사들을 소개하는 전시회인 맥켄지 홀의 비전을 담고 있습니다.

캐나다는 조선보다 먼저 복음의 빛을 받아들인 나라였습니다. 1888년, 캐나다 최초의 선교사들이 당시 미개하고 가난했던 조선에 도착해 조선에 복음의 빛을 비추기 시작했습니다. 이후에도 캐나다 선교사들은 지속적으로 한국을 방문했습니다.

그들이 예수님의 사랑으로 한국을 사랑했고, 이제는 예수님의 사랑으로 세상을 사랑하겠다는 비전을 담은 디자인입니다.

홀 내부에는 187명 선교사 모두의 사진과 이름이 전시되어 있습니다.

우리가 받은 복음의 빛, 사랑의 빛을 온 세상에 비추겠다는 비전을 박물관에 담았습니다.

130여 년 전 한국을 사랑한 200여 명의 캐나다 선교사들의 헌신과 사랑을 10개의 섹션으로 정리하여 전시하고 있습니다.

Vision of the Exhibition Hall

This photo encapsulates the vision of MacKenzie Hall, an exhibition dedicated to Canadian missionaries in Joseon (South Korea and North Korea before division).

Canada was a country that accepted the light of the gospel before Joseon. In 1888, the first Canadian missionaries arrived in Joseon, a country then considered underdeveloped and impoverished, beginning to shed the light of the gospel upon the country. Since then, Canadian missionaries have continuously come to Korea.

This design embodies the vision that they loved Korea with the love of Jesus and now it is our vision to love the world with the love of Jesus.

Inside the hall, there are photos and names of all 187 missionaries.

Our museum holds the vision of shining the light of the gospel and the light of love we received to the whole world.

This exhibition succinctly organizes the dedication and love of about 200 Canadian missionaries who loved Korea more than 130 years ago into 10 sections.
